Winter crops - Uruguay broke records in 2022
Uruguay’s wheat yield was the second highest in the world in 2022, well above that of the United States and just below that of the European Union, a historical leader in agricultural productivity.
The country’s wheat industry did benefit from three consecutive years of La Niña, the periodic cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific, that created favourable growing conditions for winter crops. Reasonable temperatures further contributed to the outstanding results of this past campaign with wheat yields well above 4,500 kg/ha, double those of Argentina.
We saw a similar outcome for barley with average yields exceeding for the first time 5,000 kg/ha, thus putting Uruguay in the lead evenahead of the European Union.

Cultivos deinvierno - Uruguay batió récords en 2022
El rendimiento del trigo uruguayo fue el segundo más alto del mundo en 2022, muy por encima del de Estados Unidos y justo por debajo del de la Unión Europea, líder histórico en productividad agrícola.
La industria triguera del país se benefició de tres años consecutivos de La Niña, el enfriamiento periódico de las temperaturas de la superficie oceánica en el Pacífico ecuatorial central y centro-oriental, que creó condiciones favorables para los cultivos de invierno. Las temperaturas razonables contribuyeron además a los excelentes resultados de esta última campaña, con rendimientos de trigo muy superiores a 4.500 kg/ha, el doble que en Argentina.
En el caso de lacebada vimos un resultado similar, con rendimientos medios que superaron porprimera vez los 5.000 kg/ha, lo que situó a Uruguay a la cabeza, por delante incluso de la Unión Europea.
